Looking for a country-garden wedding that oozes understated elegance? Then look no further than Hendall Manor Barns in Heron’s Ghyll, East Sussex.
These beautiful barns have been lovingly, and painstakingly, rennovated by owners Nicola and Peter who have infused their relaxed, welcoming charm into every nook and cranny.
Set around an immaculate courtyard garden the historic buildings create the perfect backdrop for all kinds of family occasions, not least a quintessentially English country wedding, perhaps followed by an afternoon tea or even a barn dance!
The Stone Barn with its raw brickwork, exposed beams and huge windows is an achingly inviting space that is simply waiting for you to gather your nearest and dearest to witness your heartfelt ceremony and celebrate your wedding.
I’d opt for a stripped back look with nothing more extravagant than draped fairy lights and milk bottle vases filled with wild flowers – personally, I don’t think the space needs much more.
However, with a vaulted ceiling, wooden dance floor and beautiful stone upper ‘terrace’ it’s a real blank canvas for any number of stunning set ups.
What’s more, there are a whole host of romantic and quirky spots around the grounds that are perfect for a stunning series of wedding photos, including a grand arched veranda at the Manor House itself, a tree lined pond, a dreamily long driveway and even a little wooden stile.
And if that wasn’t enough, there are several rooms available in adjacent conversions for the bridal party to stay the night before and even a converted pigsty for the happy couple to honeymoon in after the party has come to a close.
If you’re getting a sense that I’m a little bit in love with Hendall Manor Barns then you’d not be wrong; it’s one of the most captivating places I’ve been to in a long time.
The fact that it’s a small, family concern makes it even more delightful, as it exudes all the warmth and intimacy that the most memorable of weddings are made from.
Check it out for yourself and I’ll be damned if you’re not bowled over too…!
